The FSRA is the financial services regulator in the UK Overseas Territory of St Helena, Ascension and Tristan da Cunha.
St Helena is a remote volcanic island in the South Atlantic Ocean renowned for its extraordinary evolutionary isolation, holding over 500 endemic species that represent one-third of all unique species across the UK and its overseas territories. It is a globally significant biodiversity hotspot, including a Cloud Forest in Peaks National Park—home to rare prehistoric flora — and surrounded by a 450,000-square-kilometer Marine Protected Area teeming with migrating whale sharks and unique reef life.
Resonating with St Helena's unique biodiversity status, we now wish to develop St Helena as a niche financial center for impact investment funds and for the incorporation of companies that are committed to corporate sustainability and environmentally responsible business practices. Legislative preparations are under way.
The FSRA now wishes to appoint two individuals to act as Senior Advisors to help us in this endeavour:
For these appointments, we are interested to hear from individuals with the following experience:
Senior Advisor # 1 (Sustainability/ESG Experience)
- Significant experience in ESG, sustainable finance or impact investment matters
- Senior-level experience with an impact investment management firm, ESG assurance and reporting firm, or as a sustainable finance strategy advisor.
Senior Advisor # 2 (Business and Legal Experience)
- Senior management experience in an international wealth management or trustee company
- Senior-level experience in a law firm, advising on private wealth, trusts or tax
In each case, the purpose of the role is to help St Helena achieve its ambition to develop as a niche financial centre that is attractive to businesses and investors with a demonstrated commitment to sustainability. We would therefore be particularly pleased to hear from individuals with strong professional networks and business relationships that might facilitate that objective.
The roles are not based in St Helena and may be performed remotely.
Although St Helena is closely connected to the UK, we are keen to appoint individuals with a diverse range of experience and, accordingly, we invite applications from suitably qualified individuals, regardless of their location.
Each role pays a fixed annual fee of US$ 7000, with an expected time commitment of 14 or 15 days each year. The role also includes a familiarisation visit to St Helena during the term of appointment.
The roles might be of interest to individuals with a portfolio of non-executive or advisory roles, wishing to add a public service role to their portfolio.
Successful candidates may be appointed as members of the FSRA under section 3 of the Financial Services Ordinance 2008.
